1. What is Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit?

CRCB provides financial support to employed and self-employed people who cannot complete 50% of their work. This is because they have to look after a relative or their underage child who needs proper care.

On December 23, 2021, the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit closed accepting applications with retrospective dates. As a result, this benefit is no longer open for applications.

2. Requirements To Apply For CRCB:

To be eligible for Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit, you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Due to taking care of a family member, you could not work for at least 50% of the week scheduled for you.
  • You didn’t apply for or get any other support program during that time period.
  • You are a Canadian citizen.
  • Your age is at least fifteen.
  • You possess a verified Social Security number (SIN)
  • You made at least $5,000 in 2019, 2020, 2021, or the year before the application date.
  • Only you and nobody else in your home has submitted an application for the weekly benefit.

3. How To Apply For CRCB?

On the CRA website, applicants must submit a CRCB application for each week they wish to use. There are two ways to apply for this benefit. Such as:

  • Through online process
  • Through phone

The CRCB amounts are subject to tax. Therefore, you must include the CRCB amounts as income when you submit your income tax return.

4. How Much Do You Get?

For people who miss at least 50% of their weekly work, CRCB offers a $500 weekly taxable benefit per household. The main reason for missing work should be supervising someone ill due to COVID-19. Each qualified family gets payments for a total of 44 weeks.

5. How Long Does It Take To Get Approved For CRCB?

When the Canada Revenue Agency receives your additional information, validation can take up to 4 weeks. However, it could take up to eight weeks if your situation is more complicated. Or if your data needs to be clarified or there are missing documents. Once the validation is finished, CRA will get in touch with you.
