The rental increase can be calculated using the Ontario Consumer Price Index. And this price index is a Statistics Canada tool used to measure inflation and economic conditions over a year. In addition, we have given an example for the calculation of a rent increase:

Your monthly rent is $1,000 when you sign a lease on June 1, 2022. The guideline for 2023 is 2.5%. Therefore:

A rise of 2.5% = $25.00

$1,000 + $25.00 = $1,025.00

Therefore, the landlord has the right to increase the rent payment on June 1, 2023, up to $1,025.00 per month. And for this, the property owner must provide the written notice at least 90 days before the last date.

It is the maximum amount that a landlord can charge on the household rent. Moreover, in Mississauga, the rent prices vary every year and for the year 2023, the rate is 2.5 percent.
